the great Avant hunt...
While I love my C6 Avant, I'd LOVE the idea of swapping in a 2.7T w/ an 01E to give it a little extra umph.
So, is everything a CVT, now? I don't see man 3.0T Avants, either. I'm looking in the '06-'08, under 60K mi. market.
The 3.2 isn't a dog, IMO, it's got enough power but the direct injected, superchaged 3.0T model is significantly more powerful. Noticeable in easy driving and very noticable if you're driving hard and/or have a full vehicle.
The A6 avants are very, very rare here in S. CA and we had to special order our car a few years back. It was worth it. Great sized vehicle with reasonable efficiency, great power, and good versatility.
I came from a 1.8T but never completed my turbo / tranny swap. While the 3.2 is much better than the 1.8T, there isn't much room for improvement beyond what it is (except for maybe JHM downpipes and a tune to adjust the fuel settings).
With the 3.0T, there's more potential for bigger gains.

In my search for a suitable C6 Avant, it required numerous false starts (e.g. sold out from under me, availablity, etc.) before I found one with the color combination and the minimum options I wanted. In the end, I located a lease return, low–mileage '06 A6 Avant w/ adpative air suspension, tech, premium, NAV, cold, etc. on the East coast (Maryland) from a eBay dealer, bought it sight unseen (after being checked out by FSK Audi, and had it shipped to me in WA state. Since owning it, I have been very satisfied w/ the car. No dog, but not a S6 or RS4 super high performance sports car. If you check out the 3-yr lease returns (MYs '08 or '09) you can find several Avants on the on–line sources (e.g., eBay, Cars.com, etc.).

With the 2.7, you can make it an absolute beast (i.e. TIAL 770s, downpipes, and tune) whereas with the 3.2, that's pretty much it.
Comfort wise, the C6 platform wins hands down (compared to the older stuff).
I wish I had adaptive air suspension--that's a pretty badass option!
