Looks like the 3.0TFSI came on with the 2009. I think I'm going to scan the "program cars" until one pops up. Looks like "S-line" is purely an appearance package, now. I could go either way on sport suspension. My 2.7t doesn't have it and I"ve only really missed it off the line. As far as the air ride, it's not something I'd usually want on a long-ter vehicle but the tech. does seem impressive. All those sagging Lincolns out there have polluted my mind.
Regarding clearance, I'm a little concerned about getting highcentered in the deep stuff on a particular gravel lane. Then again, even Outback level clearance won't get me there if it's deep. We'll have room for the snowshoes, I guess!

I would pass on the '09 since that was the intro year of the 3.0TFSI engine, which has a worse–thna–average reliability rating (IMHO, primarily due to water pump failures). Re: ground clearance, you might look for one equipped w/ the adaptive air suspension option to gain a little more ground clearance (also helps to prevent scraping the front bumper cover). Avants are rare, especially one w/ the air suspension.

My 2010 had a recall for water pump. I didn't have any issues and I'm sorry that I don't recall what was actually replaced but they did extend the powertrain warranty along with replacing/correcting the parts. So the "issue" isn't limited to 2009 cars.

My 08 3.2 avant has been plenty fast enough. But if you want more the 3.0T is awesome, more power and better (slightly) gas mileage. 09s are starting to show up off lease, set up an autotrader search alert and set "any distance" - you will find one somewhere. I am in CA and mine came from Colorado. On a ford dealer lot of all places.
The other nice thing about turbo/super is the instant boost without having to downshift - one thing I miss with the 3.2 vs. my old 1.8T vw passat.
