just wondering if someone has put a performance chip in their car and what was their experience.
I assume it would only add maybe 15-20 hp.

I also wondered this. I went to GIAC's Website and found this:
GIAC performance software for the 2006 - 2000 A6 ® 4.2 smoothly delivers a 12-15 hp and 15-18 ft-lbs gain. For optimum performance the software must be coupled with a cold air intake.
Torque gains are pretty good at 15-18. I am not sure how much you would feel it but it would make the output of the 05-06 A6 on par with the 2007+ 4.2 which has FSI. The 05-06 puts out 335hp in 2007 Audi made the 4.2 FSI and started using Dual electronic fuel pumps that upped the power to 350hp.
