Default I purchased my 4.2 for $2200 over invoice...

I thought it was about time someone posted a realistic price

I never have bragging rights when I purchase a car, but I'm satisfied and I absolutely think the A6 4.2 2005 is a brilliant car.

The technology and the way Audi has presented it in the car is exceptionally well done.

Default Kinda OT. I purchased my A3 for MSRP less shipping from another dealer ($400)

That was the good guy discount for a car that was not yet officially released for a few more days :-)

Does that bother me? Nah. The dealer is a few blocks from my house and treats me extremely well, despite me buying the least expensive model they offer (also a Porsche dealer).

Default OT Again: How do you like the A3?

I have a Golf TDI right now and I was thinking that would be a neat car to replace it with (I want the DSG). I drive a *lot* and it still gets decent fuel economy. Not that traffic really moves in the morning or evening in So. Cal.

yeah I got mine (3.2) for about that as well and it was a great deal. All these guys saying they got theirs for $50 bucks under invoice... yeah that's what the dealer TOLD them they got it for.

My pal worked for Acura and he would tell people whatever they wanted to hear... and all the "dealer invoices" prices online were usually crap as well.

Dealerships sell cars - they don't give them to you for 25 bucks profit.

Default I want an A3 hatchback badly...

but am waiting for the quattro.

And I'm waiting for someone to buy my Porsche Cayenne first. The SUV market has perished.

Default Loving it. Wanted a small practical car that actually fit short people (it fits 6 footers too)

and the bonus is that it's a really fun point and squirt traffic hooligan. In fact I'm kind of glad the 2.0T doesn't come with QTR. It's very chucklable at sane speeds, and so the fun factor means you don't need to be breaking laws. My friend has a Jetta TDI, and just a short drive in the A3 makes the controls and feedback in his car feel stodgy. It's extremely easy to drive around town - and I have the stick.

Lots of room for people given the package, but rear cargo area is limited unless you put down the rear seats.

Around town mileage has been around 23mpg, and on a recent trip to Tahoe/Reno, it got 26/27mpg doing 80/90 most of the way, up hills, etc.

Default QTR will come on the VR6 version late this year. No plans at present

for a 2.0T QTR ... waiting to see how sales work out.

Reason is that the fuel tank in the 2.0T QTR is different than the 3.2 VR6, or the Front Trak 2.0T. That would require all new crash testing and certification. Since the VW GTi will be Front Trak only, and the 3.2 VR6 will be shared with some other volume VWs, the 2.0T QTR would be a bit of an orphan with low sales volumes. However, if sales are good, we'll see it.

Default $6500 off MSRP here

When you see the invoice it doesn't lie. I got a '05 A6 3.2, MSRP $48920, for $42374. This was after Audi incentives since I already had an Audi vehicle. And yes, the MSRP was from the dealer and the sales slip reflects the actual sales price. I think I got lucky because it was the last day of June, the dealer needed to meet their quota, and the car had been sitting on their lot since February.

Don't insult others because we got a better deal than you got, most of us here are educated buyers and post these things to help out those who don't know what cars are selling for....

Default Thank you for explaining the special factors in your deal.

Obviously from the dealer standpoint, the loyalty incentive is not reflected in the amount off invoice, but from the consumer perspective it is.

What colour, options, and region? All play a part in negotiation. The fact the car sat since Feb, says it isn't a popular combo, or the dealer doesn't know how to sell that combo.
