MPG from on-board computer 29.7, actual fuel mileage 27.33

Yes, Audi seems to factor in a 5% - 10% overestimate on their trip computer average mpg.
I have 90k miles of proof. And I'm sure it does effect some people's posted mpgs numbers.
You can adjust it via VAG-COM as vanGogh pointed out. My A4 is currently set to 105 and my S4 needed 110. With those setting it was usually spot on or 1% to 2% lower than calculated.
Also IIRC the speedo reading a smidge high has something to do with European or German law about speedometers not allowed to read lower than actual speed.

Re: I'm assuming you mean less fuel than actual, rather than less fuel mileage
Sorry, I'm living in Finland so I meant MMI shows less consumption than actual, is it then MMI shows better fuel mileage ?
Best so far is 5.8 litres/100km = 40 mpg during 200 mile trip (according to MMI with air cond, radio, xenons switched off, driver only, average speed about 60 mph). Average over 14000 miles is 27 mpg (C6 quattro Avant Tiptronic, 3.0 TDI with aux heater (Eberspächer) during winter time about an hour a day). 20 % better than my old A4 2.0 TFSI with similar drivetrain!
If you add 10% consumption for "real" measures you still get 36 mpg for "best forever" and 25 for "average".
