I have been posting on and off about this A6 I acquired with a bum motor.

We have since placed a wrecker engine (said to be a good runner) from an A6 that had a head on collision. The top coolant pipe had been punctured and the water pump pulley, bent out of shape.... both replaced from original motor.

we finished snuggin up the bellhousing bolts and went on to the torque converter bolts. Turned the crank and lined up the torque converter hole by spinning it clockwise (which spun freely) and placed the bolts in one by one hand tight to the flywheel.
Well we went to turn the crank so we could torque them down to spec (with an oil filter band mind you) and it turned and then stopped... dead in its tracks... it will go backwards a tich... we just wanted to see if it would move which it did easily... but it seems locked.

no spark plugs, nothing in the intake holes, oil cap off...

now i am wondering if the harmonic balanced is fubared... I realize this could mean lots of problems internally but is there anything we are missing? Something that is simple where we missed a step? How doomed are we?
