Replacing glovebox for an iPod Install?
Hey, I was just told by a dealership that they would need to replace the glovebox for a 2006 Audi A6 4.2L in order to install the AMI kit for the ipod. Is this true?
Also if I go with an aftermarket option like the dension gateway 500 does it provide full iPod control like the factory unit does?

Few questions about the Dension GW 500 vs the Audi AMI
1) Is there any advantage to use one over the other?
2) How do you access the iPod from the MMI?
3) Can you navigate it like you would if you were using the iPod itself?
4) Does it prevent you from using your CD changer? I noticed it took the place of CD 5 & 6?
5) Is it also compatible with the iPhone? If so will the iPhone still work in bluetooth mode when plugged in?

Re: Few questions about the Dension GW 500 vs the Audi AMI
1. Price
2. It is seen as a CD changer.
3. Yes
4. No
5. It is compatible with my bluetooth enabled phone. Can't speak for the iPhone but it should be the same as Bluetooth works pretty much the same.
Just ensure you have a current version of the MMI software.

Re: Few questions about the Dension GW 500 vs the Audi AMI
I have a Denison GW 500 and overall like it.
To answer your questions as they apply to the Denison:
1. Not sure, as I've never seen the AMI in action.
2. Through the CD menu.
3. More or less.
4. There's a toggle switch on the AUX input installed as part of the installation in the glove box. You can use either the CD changer or the iPod, but not at the same time.
5. I've used my iPhone on it and it seems to work fine. Bluetooth still functions and you can make or receive calls as you normally would. Only issue is that it may not charge a 3G iPhone. The icon shows it charging, but I'm not sure that it actually does.
