Default Suspension Replacement Options

Hi All

I am starting a horde parts for a coming suspension job in the coming months and wanted some advise on how far I should go. I am not strapped for cash but trying to be particle vs impractical. Engine has had a full rebuild down to the heads and tranny is in great shape.

2007 A6 Avant has 145,000 KM. Original suspension all over.

I've order a set of

- Koni FSD's and will use stock springs (family wagon, the eibach springs I think will be too hard)
- full replacements for all Front Upper/Lower Front/Rear arms
- Outer steering Tie rods and Front and Rear Swaybar Kit.
- Front and rear shock mounts

Do I stop there or should I be replacing:

All the bushings for the rear track control rods, rear upper control arms and lower control arms? Anything else?

The rear's don't show, at least while assembled, any issues or play. You can only by the rear track control rods new with bushings, everything else will have to be pressed.

Thoughts? If I do the last but, looking around 300USD

So far, after 145,000 miles and 18 years, the only thing that I've replaced in the rear is the snub bushing for the diff. If the stab bar isn't rattling or thunking and if there are no noises from the rear, I'd stay away from replacing bushings and arms in the rear. Check them, though for wiggle.

Just my experience w/3 C6 Avants
'06 3rd owner from 180K-220K (Sold) No suspension work needed (none from 45K-180K either)
'07 2nd Owner 114K to 154K presently, no suspension work
'08 3rd Owner 127K to 155K presently, Frt sway bar links only (I attribute this to 255/35/19 tires hammering the suspension harder than the other cars with 17-18 in wheels)

Completly agree with keepting the original springs and original geometry. Lowering the family avant is not a way to go. Before my C6 Avant I had C4 avant. I replaced springs and shocks on the old one with the after market ones. I will never will do it again.

the springs designed for sedan and when installed on avant, the back looks reciculously low. The inner part of the tiers were wearing a lot. The camber plates were breaking every 15K miles. I also had to replace front shocks after 40K Miles (these were Bilsteins). I had both rear brake hoses blow up one after anotehr within a month. I suspect it was due to the low setting on the rear. I also had a few 16" rims bent or cracked with lower suspention.

none of this happens on my new avant with 166K miles and the ORIGINAL suspension. I will keep it this way till the end.
