TCM Wiring Harness - Terminal Release Tool
Howdy,
My AUDI flooded and the stealership informed me that I would need a new TCM and possible complete wiring job. I had my car towed home with the hope of doing it myself. After watching YouTube and reading your posts, I feel I can do it.
I have a new TCM (exact serial #s down to first/last alpha characters), good TCM wiring harness pigtail (plan to use for replacing "fried" wires in original TCM wiring harness), and two pin release tools (assured would work; but, they have not). To date, I cannot get the dang pin out of the harness. I am using the "micro" extractor tool.
Has anyone repaired their TCM wiring harness post flood? If you have, then I would truly appreciate your guidance (tip or trick) for removing the pin. I only have ONE bad pin. Thank goodness. If I can replace the pin, then I should be able to "plug-and-play" and drive my car away.
Thank you for your help. Y'all seem to have a great network of solid recommendations and instructions.

What year is your car and what engine/transmission do you have? The C6 generation of the A6 with automatic transmission has the TCM located inside of the transmission.

I have the same problem, have you fixed it yet? I bought another harness from ebay and am going to cut out the old one and connect the new one by just twisting wires together. Has anyone done that before? Does that work or should I solder them

Hi there, Lazo.
Were you able to remove the specific pin from the harness? That is my issue - afraid of breaking it. Only one pin/wire blown.
From all that I have read/researched refrain from soldering Audi wires. There are special shrink wrap connectors that are highly recommended.

Hi Audi-Gal,
in my case I had three broken pins and the female side was quite rusty so I thought it would be better to replace the harness (which cost me around $30) because I did not want to go back to that problem in case if rust continues to grow. I just cut out the old harness and replaced with new/used one by twisting the same color/size wires. As coating I used the heat shrink wrap by using lighter. I also replaced steering angle sensor which caused the ABS warning light to come on. If you don't have the ABS light on the dashboard you're half lucky , if you do then that sensor might be the reason. But you need vcds for that. Hope this helps.
