Default Tranny swapping between 05 n 09

Howdy all, I have an 05 sitting in my backyard with bent valves, it has the 3.2. My current A6, an 09 (3.0T) is starting to slip and shift hard for the first 5 mins or so of driving.

Im assuming it’s the seals in the valve body that are starting to get hard and soften once it warms up. After a few mins of driving, it shifts perfect and no slipping.

...now, can I take the valve body from my busted 05 and put it into my 09? Then I’ll rebuild the 09 valve and reinstall... is that doable??

Why not just drop the valve body and change the sleeves & seals between the valve body and the casing? This video shows the process

Or if you are going to swap to a new valve body, you need to take the TCM off the existing valve body and re-use it in the same car, so you don’t have CP coding issues. He talks about exactly that between 2:20 and 2:50 in this video:

ps.. at 6:45 - 8:00 in the second video he mentions that it’s quite unlikely faults are down to the valve body itself, instead it’s usually the external sleeves/seals or the solenoids. So your plan of swapping an alternative VB into place might not be necessary. Good luck

Thanks, I’ll look those over, I have no idea what is exactly wrong, I was just guessing.

...just watched... lots of good info, thanks.

So it seems like my issues may just be those sleeves and other larger rubber gasket. Those looked easy enough to change, once you’re in there lol. I’ll be working off the ground, so may not be that easy to get to

Yeah, worth a try with that but watch out - apparently the valve body is 10kg so you’ll need a good plan on how to support it so you can safely remove those last bolts without it dropping. Holding it with one hand and unscrewing the bolts with the other might not work out too well unless you have arms like Tarzan.

Will be really interesting if you could document it in a thread because I might try the same thing at some point (as an attempt to remedy my rpm fluctuations issue).

I found out by the way that on Audi’s the electrical connector has the wiring loom attached, so I presume this means you have to pull the release lever then prise the connector outwards and the wiring harness will come out thru the hole. Or alternatively maybe you can pull the white release lever then unscrew and drop the valve body and leave the electrical connector and wiring loom in place? It would be good if anyone who has done this could confirm?

apparently it’s only on BMWs that the connector itself comes out standalone, as shown on the video.
