Default What's P2702 - 000 - Apply Time Implausible - Intermittent?

Few weeks ago I had the car go into limp mode on 5th gear twice in the same day only 6 miles apart. It's was weird cause going into 5th gear and accelerating it trigger the limp mode. Felt like a small lost of power but it push through "PAM" limp mode set in.
I shut off the car and restarted and everything was fine until 6 miles "PAM" again. So I drove it in sports mode to the shop and they can't figure it out either. It's just sitting at shop(well respected audi & vw shop in pasadena).

When I did the scan this is what I got:

For me the first step would be to check the tranny fluid for clutch material. May help determine if the clutch is worn out, otherwise a bad/lazy solenoid, or possibly a short. BTW, this is pure speculation on my part. I had a 5th gear clutch go bad on a BMW, drove it in Sport4 for 2 years, then traded it for my A6.

How many miles on the car? was the tranny fluid every replaced or checked?

Ok this the deal. The shop replaced the mechatronic for funny business about month ago. I just put about 600 miles since then. Before all that they didn't find anyone clutch material or low fluid. They replaced the fliter and mechatronic. Before replacement 77123 and now 77702.

Could it be the TC(torque converter)?

IMO, if it's doing this on a downshift, I would double check the fluid level. Sometimes when the trans was drained, air might get trapped in cavities from where it's not released right away giving a sense of proper fluid level. 1/4 to 1/2 quart less fluid in the trans can cause such problems. I know it from personal experience. Also use a level on the trans pan to double check. Before you check fluid, you should drive it for a mile to go through all the gears, better than just shifting R-N-D while stationary.

What the code seems to say is that the application time of the clutch is inconsistent, this could be cause by momentary lack of pressure. This also manifests itself more in the higher gears because the engagement of the TC clutch uses some volume of oil as well.

Hope this helps!

Ultamaltly, this meant a trans swap for me. Started with a fluid and filter change, no help, As I was looking into the solinoides, I came a cross a guy on ebay that apparently did a lot of business rebuilding these mectronics. sent him my scans, he stated, that the issue really was in the clutch materials, and it would be a waist of time and money to just do the Mectronic.

Did you go with a new tranny, rebuilt or used? My A6 is kicking the P2702 also. Started about 4 years ago. After several trips to the dealership and buying a new mechatronic unit still did it. Been parked in the garage for the past 3 years.

I went used. I got really lucky and found on for $1300+shipping with less that 100,000 miles. It is still strong and about to get an fluid change and filter after almost 40k miles.
