Default 2012 A6 or A7?

Hi all,

I am looking to replace my current car around October. I am having a hard time picking between the A6 and the A7.

From the specs both cars are almost the same...from the interior to the options. So is the appoximate $9K difference just for the exterior and some added trunk space?

I saw the two side by side at the NYC Auto Show and decided that the looks and the hatch were worth the extra money. I am sure that in October, you will see them in person next to one another and will make the right choice for yourself. I also liked the longer wheelbase and the uniqueness of the A7.

Every once in a while something iconic in car design comes along. Look at reviews by professional journalists
posted here. They have to appear balanced and yet there is an enthusiam which I think means this will become a classic--extending way beyond A6 in aesthetics/beauty/ownership pride. Would you not like to get a thrill privately everyday and this can transcend to enjoying the getting there as much or more than the destination.
It may lead to more road trips if you find that personally relevant. It may lead to longer ownership. I think
art in the driveway worth $9K more. But it is an individual thing.

On paper, the A7 is the A6 with a fancier body for $9000 more dollars. If that's all that matters its an easy choice.

In person, the A7 is just seriously sexy, tons of cache.

Here's another review from the Wall Street Journal that I thought was a little different from what we normally see in the car magazines and web sites:

If you are looking at this rationally, yes that is pretty much correct. An added benefit also may be improved steering feel of the A7 (see the Motor Trend review someone has linked). But again, if you are thinking purely rationally, what is wrong with a Nissan Maxima or a Hyuindai Sonata?

But if the cars appeal to you on an emotional level, it's hard to beat the A7. Sure the A6 is good looking, but it's just another German sedan - and not better looking than the 2011, IMO. The A7, however, is much more exclusive and is much better looking. But if doesn't stir your soul, don't bother and invest your money in something that does.

Purchasing cars at this level is about how emotionally bonded you are to the car. When I saw the new A6 I was not very impressed with the design, but not the A7! You can't justify rationally when comparing two cars at the similar level.

The A6 and A7 have the same wheelbase. The A7 is 2 inches longer though.
