Default Advanced Key (Keyless entry)

Hi guys,

Happy new year to you all.

I have been on this forum some time ago, which I had my A4, but since I had my BMW, I haven't been on here for some time. But no I have a A7, and hence back and loving the discussions

I have a quick question on the Keyless go feature which is standard in the UK, which allows me to start the car with the key in my pocket, but the Advance Keyless entry is not standard. The Advanced keyless entry feature should allow me to keep the key in my pocket to open the car (just touch or move close to the car). As I have bought a second hand car, I wanted to find out if it is possible to VAG-COM this feature on?

Thank you for you help in advance.
Viks

Hi and welcome.

I'm a newbie on the forum myself (so happy new year to you and to everyone else on here) but not new to Audi.

I may be wrong but I doubt that will work as there are a number of things that come with the Advanced option including a sensor under the rear bumper that allows you to open the boot (or trunk) by simply waving your foot under the sensor.

Therefore I suspect it's a bit more involved.

I have an A7 with the Advanced Keyless Entry but there is no such thing as waving your foot under the sensor to open the rear hatch. You have to press a button under the rear lip of the hatch door.

I have seen a commercial for a Ford Escape that you can wave your foot under the rear bumper and it opens the trunk so long as you have the FOB key in your pocket.

Don't know if this is proprietary technology or if it can be installed in other cars. I don't know of any Audi's or other luxury cars that do this yet.

The very first few delivered U.S. 2013 A6s actually had this feature but it was completely unreliable. Only worked sometimes and walking by the left rear fender with the key in my pocket would sometimes cause the trunk lid to pop open on it's own. When I noted this at my 5000 mi service, the dealer told me a few 2013 US A6 cars left the factory with this feature activated but Audi published a "fix" to deactivate it with a software revision. Frankly, based on my experience, I'm glad it's now off.
