A suspected speeding drunk driver was incredibly luck to escape a fiery single-car crash early Friday.
The man is recovering in hospital with minor injuries after his car hit a near near Cambie Street and McGuigan Avenue around 4 a.m.
He was found by emergency responders sitting nearby after escaping the flaming wreck of his high-end Audi, which split in two on impact with the pole then burst into flames.
Crash investigators have determined the driver was headed south on Cambie beforehe lost control on a curve passing through West 33rd Avenue and hit the pole.
“Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the collision and an impaired driving investigation is currently under way,” said VPD spokeswoman Const. Jana McGuinness in a release Saturday.
Anyone who saw the crash or the Audi beforehand is asked to call investigators at 604-717-3012.

Amazing the driver survived. Imagine the forces to sheer the car in 2.
Little bit of superglue to put the halves back together and he should be good to go when he gets out of jail.

What a shame!
Glad the driver is ok....and so sad that the car is destroyed. Makes you think twice when having a drink, and relying upon the handling to keep you safe. This only goes to a certain limit, and therefore never abuse the machine!!!
