Future of A7
With the introduction of the A5 Sportback, I have been wondering if the A7 will continue in production as it never seems to have been a big seller and now the mini A7, aka A5 SB. Has anyone looked at the new A5 SB to see how it compares to an A7? Planning on going by dealer in 3 days to look at both.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice as I ponder an A7.
I think Audi will continue to produce the A7 and import it to the US. Its a high margin product for them as its mechanically the same as the A6, but Audi charges $5K+ more for it
1) I think the design of the A7 is timeless. The A5 AB of course has a similar look but I personally dont think the hood and shoulder creases are going to age as well with time.
2) In person the difference in size feels pretty noticeable. I absolutely love the big beautiful feel of the A7- I have to take around clients here and there and the back seat just felt a bit lower and more cramped in the A5 SB whereas A7 was perfect blend of sport and exec sedan for me
3) A7 has Black optics - A5 SB will eventually (or u can get wrapped)
4) There is a noticeable difference in tech (in favor of course of the A5 SB) but in practice A7 has suited all my needs. The one thing I miss the full/better implementation of top down camera on the A5 SB
5) 333 HP vs. 252 HP (of course you could get the S5 if power important to you - I didnt think power was important to me but now I feel spoiled for life)
6) It just bugs me to pay full price for anything
- discounts are just harder to come by on the A5 SB right nowaudi has big plans for the 2019 A7 so the model isnt going anywhere anytime soon (getting back to your original question)
As cars evolve I don't always think it is for the better. I currently have a 2015 Q7 TDI which I love, and plan to keep for many years, and some of the new design elements of the new Q7 just don't appeal to me. On the tech side there are some good changes, but then some bad ones as well (auto stop/start will be on permanently starting in 2018, no way to shut off). And most of the new Q7's come with run flat tires and no spare; call me old school but I prefer having a spare rather than hoping somewhere out on the interstate I will find the not to common tire size that the A7 has.
