How to update Nav/Google Maps?

Cars prior to 2016 require an update from the dealer for new NAV data (the Google Earth will update on its own but it doesn't impact route guidance). Expect to be completely ripped off to the tune of at least $400, if not more.

That's terrible news. I just moved to a new area and the street doesn't even exist on the Nav yet. for some of my other cars, I was able to buy a nav update DVD on eBay and update via the DVD player. is that NOT an option with the Audi cars?

The car's internal map database is sourced from NavTeq (now called Here). Like most map revisions, the data on a new update is about 2 years old, give or take.
The OP mentioned Google Maps in the thread title. Google does not have anything to do with the map data in an Audi. However, they do provide a Google Earth photo overlay and online POI searches included with Audi Connect; these are updated dynamically over the internet the same as the online Google Maps as seen on their website or smartphone app.

I updated the MMI twice as you can't do it in one jump (depending on what version you are on) i then installed maps via sd card slot.
Mines is a 2012.
I have 3G+ and no Bose system.
I am in UK not sure where you are in the world.
MMI and Nav Updated to 2016
Place I got mines from
Audi updates sat nav maps dvd sd card 2016 firmware activation
He was doing a 25% off as I had arranged with him so other guys I know on different forums could get it.
Code was "Update Me"
If not speak to him and say i sent you as he may still honour it.
