IPhone 5 not going to work with Audi
Also, have you tried Pandora or iTunes using Bluetooth from the phone? Others using any iPhone have reported loss of MMI control and song info with IOS 6 on Bluetooth.
Glad it's working -- i get my adapter tomorrow and will report back from a 2008 Q7 Gen2 MMI.

snagitseven - Yes, full MMI control and display of song info from the iPhone 5 with the Lightning-to-30-pin adapter. I don't have the red grommet cable so no album art.
I also have tried Pandora and iTunes using BT through the iPhone 5, and I can confirm:
- iTunes via BT: No MMI control, but song info present. Below are two pictures comparing iTunes via MMI vs. iTunes via BT:
iTunes via MMI:

iTunes via BT:

- Pandora va BT: No MMI control, no song info (it just leaves the last song I had been playing via iTunes on the screen)
- Pandora via MMI: This one's just plain wonky. See the screenshots below:
Step 1:
Here I am playing a song from iTunes via MMI. I'm playing "Rocketeer" in my "Cruisin" playlist:

Step 2: When I load up Pandora on my iPhone, it selects "Designer Skyline". However, the MMI simultaneously jumps to the next song in the playlist and indicates that "Green Light" (another song on my iPhone) is the active song. The song the MMI thinks it's playing is therefore incorrect, but the timer (2:11) matches "Designer Skyline"'s time.

Step 3: If I select "Folder Up" and then go back into my "Cruisin" playlist, the song title has been correctly updated to "Designer Skyline" -- but all the other songs in the playlist are "unknown Title".

Through all of this, song info for the Pandora is not present -- it erroneously shows whatever song I was playing last on iTunes (if it does it at all - sometimes it just doesn't show any song info).
Anyway hope that sheds some light on things!
I tried my iPhone 5 with the red cable and 30-pin adapter, and the AMI did not initially recognize it. The device did show up for about one second, but then disappeared. I tried disconnecting the Lightning connector and then reconnecting. When the iPhone shows up in the Source list immediately select it and it may load the info. If not, disconnect the Lightning connector and try again. It may take two or three tries, but it will connect and play audio, including the track info and album art. Other audio apps work as well, Pandora with album art. No video sources will play.
I use my iPhones with a 30-pin male to female extension cable so I can connect the red cable in the glove compartment and see it on the dash with velcro.
I have a 2012 Audi A6 and had a similar issue. I ordered an adapter cable from apple, and it solved my delema.
The apple Lightning to 30-pin Adapter cable (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD824ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter-02-m) works fine with the MMI iphone cable and the Iphone 5. I was able to control my phone and playlists just like before through the MMI interface. At first I didn't get sound, so here's what I did - Once connected, and your device has been selected from MMI, you may need to open "music" on the Iphone 5. It will indicate it is connected but you may need to hit the "airplay" button on your screen and select "dock connector" to get sound. I've found that once the setting is made, it will remember it for future connections to your phone.
I assume the lightning connector will work the same as the adapter cable - but i've always been a little peeved that the Audi MMI connector was so short - so the apple adapter cable gave me just enough of an extension so I can look at the phone once its connected (and yes, text or check emails at red lights)
Hope that helps!

Try connecting the phone first - then start the car -- ive see issues where the adapter hampers the connection to the AMI when the car is already running.
