Just needed to renew the subscription. Sorry about the second thread piece, I didn't start this thread so I wasn't sure I was going to get an answer since it wasn't related.

Thanks again for your help!

No problem. Probably would have been better for a separate thread so we didn't hijack this one. Although, it is pretty common the have "thread drift" around here.

It appears that the MMI in my 2012 has never been updated as I am still on version 487 and map version 5.5.5...... I bought the car used and the factory warranty had just ran out, but I am curious as to why it was never updated. Anyway, I am guessing I should bring it to the dealer to have everything updated,

Unfortunately, it's not Audi's policy to update the MMI under warranty unless an owner has a problem that an update would resolve or had a very friendly service dept.. Obviously, the previous owner never bothered to research having it done.

If you read the whole thread, you know that map updates for pre-2016 model years are separate from MMI updates and are dealer installed, owner paid only and cost around $400.

My question is this - are there any significant updates/improvements in the newer MMI firmware versions to justify the cost?

Yes, I am aware that the maps are separate and that the dealer has to perform a firmware upgrade first, before they can load the new maps.

Each MMI update brought some improvements, bug fixes and a few new features. There have been several updates since 0487 (latest for pre-facelift A6 is 0814). For example 0566 added street view to the Google Earth map overlay and other updates resolved bluetooth connection issues with certain phones, Bose audio improvements, etc.

Is there a way to update maps and MMI by yourself?

What year and model do you have? Where are you located? These should be attached to your avatar and sig.

Only the MY2016 NA A7 has this capability. Otherwise, only an Audi service center can perform updates.

PO409 is very old, possibly the original version for the first C7. Many changes since to 0814.

What problems are you having editing your sig? You click "User CP" in the red menu bar upper left, then click "Edit Signature". Should be pretty straight forward. You apparently already found how to enter your location in the User CP, "Edit Details" section near the bottom of that page.
