Still standard with Prestige: "19" 10-spoke wheels 255/40 all season tires."

I cant wait to see how the A7 TDI diesel is going to be! No point to get the 3.0 supercharger when I can get the torque from the diesel engine and get a much superior gas mileage.

Aren't the TDI's more about milage than sports performance? I was glossing over some of the A8's specs the other day and TDI had amazing fuel economy compared to Supercharged ICE but sports performance didn't seem nearly as good.

It seemed you either choose a car for cruising or performance, not both.

Am I missing something ?

The torque on these diesels are amazing and will still outgun majority of the V6 gasoline engines and I am seeing that the TDI will get 0-60 in less than .5 secs more then the V6 engine so its worth it. No tradeoff here.

Last I saw the Audi reported estimates on the 2014 A8 V6 TDI it was 6.4 0-60 where the V8 4.0T was 4.8. So the TDI was noticeably slower than the V8, torque was 10% less than the V8 and had to hit a higher RPM to get there too. HP was little more than half of the V8 and still about 2/3 of the V6 which had about 20% less torque than TDI but had to hit twice the RPM.

Compared to the V8 the TDI doesn't make sense. Compared to the V6 the TDI could be the better choice. But I recall my dealer offering the TDI and V8 in similar price with V6 being less.

This is all using A8 as a basis so who know's on the A7 but I would think Audi wouldn't deviate from the path too far.

You are correct on all account. However, the A7 TDI will be priced similar to the A7 TFSI though maybe 1-2k more. Not sure yet. The car is lighter so it will accelerate faster then the A8 from 0-60 so the timing will be different then the A8.

As 2014 model will be available in US soon I have decided to wait and see the difference if any before pulling trigger. I am a tech/gadget freak and don't want to take chance in case MMI has some nifty new features. If not then perhaps I will get better price on 2013 models.

Where did you find that information? All the acceleration numbers I have seen the gas engine is faster than the diesel version, only the Biturbo with 313hp is only barely matching the gas engine acceleration.

38 MPG! The Clean Diesel Brochure on the Audi USA website lists the a7 with TDI having a mileage of 24/38! That is pretty amazing given that when compared to the TFSI engine the 0 to 60 times are less than 1 sec. (5.5 vs. 6.4 on A8).
At highway speed the difference between 28 vs. 38 miles/gallon is significant.
