Default Start/Stop Function

I apologize in advance if this topic has already been covered (I think it has) but cannot find the threads.

I used to have a '14 A7 and was able to take it into the dealer and they were able to deactivate the function, so that it would not be active when you restarted the car. In other words, you didn't have to continue to turn it off every time you stopped and restarted.

I am about to take delivery of a '16 A7 and asked the SA if they could go into the settings via their computer to accomplish the same thing again. He looked at me like I was talking a foreign language, saying he had never been asked to do it and didn't know if he could, finally saying he would have to call the techies at Audi to see if there was a code.

My question: has anyone successfully done something like this on a '16 or maybe even a '15? I told him I would check with the users on AudiWorld to see what I could find out since this forum appears to have such a broad range of experience and knowledge.

Many thanks!

It is my understanding that the only start/stop button that is sticky is the S & RS7. I made it part of my start up each time to turn it off. I have a '16 A7 TDI.

My 2015 stays at whatever you have it set at. No need to code anything. Mine is set to not shut off and I never have to touch the button.

So you never had the service department make any changes...it just does it? I test drove a '16 and would have to shut it off each time I restarted.

The '16 A7s (both TDI & TFSI) require you turn if off each time you start the car - it will not remain off. I have a '16 TDI and I've learned that it can be controlled with the brake - hold the brake pedal just enough that the car is stopped and the engine stays running; press the brake hard and the engine will shut down. Otherwise, I'm turning off the function every time I start the car. It's annoying but once you get used to hitting the button every time or controlling your brake pressure, you get used to it.

Yep, I did that a lot with my '14, but it was still a nuisance until I got the service department to turn it off via the computer settings. Once I get the car, I'll pursue it again to see what happens.
Thanks

The 16's are the first to have the start-stop function not stick (you have to turn if off every time you start the car). By keeping start-stop always default active, the 2016's were able to have better fuel economy numbers that the pre-2016 models. It's frustrating that it's now always on but I understand why Audi did it.

Edited to add - if you took your car (pre-2016 MY) to the service department and they "deactivated" the function, all they actually did was press the button on the center console. Nothing that you couldn't just do on your own.

Seem to recall in the past years, the general consensus (although unofficial) was that it saved very minimally in fuel. I would be interested in seeing some unbiased (read non-Audi) numbers in that regard.
