$$$ in the bank - Thanks PaulW - I just bought 4D0-927156 EJ

I used car-part.com and 2 came up. The one you referenced and another in CT. I called them up and it was $225 shipped! To good to pass...

So we'll see if it will:

1) work
2) work, then blow up my car
3) become a paperweight

Paul, any what code should I enter for the new box? Unlike yours, this will come with a code for a diff. motor... Oh and where is the TCU located :-)

You'll need to recode it to S8 for one or two reasons:

1. If coded to the A8, it won't go to the 7K redline.

2. The gearing is different on the A8 as compared to the S8, wonder if the ECU looks for different gear ratios.

So just code it to a S8 (mine worked on either S8 coding) before you drive it.

To get to it, open hood, drink beer, look at engine, drink beer, go to RH side of enginge compartment, drink beer, take off the electronics box cover....there is one screw in the back, you pop off a little cover in the plastic screen above it so you can get a long screw driver down into it.....or use an offset screw driver to get it off.....drink beer.

Take cover off, two screws to get the TCU out, take connector off, drink beer, unbolt four screws, mount new TCU, connect connector (forgot about drinking beer there) and install.

Recode (must be done with ignition on, engine not running) and check it out!

The TCU is the thing on the right in the picture, the black thing....

Thanks again Paul - I should know by tomorrow evening

They are overnighting the TCU to me. If this works, next mod would be a -02+ shift gate... Mine has some scratches anyway.

Could you please tell me what the code is that I should use to re-program the TCU to S8 code?

I would try 01102 at first....or you could try 00102. Mine worked both ways.

updates, relative to their cost, of course...

I just went out to my car to see if I could recode it to rest of the world S8 settings, it couldn't....tried to set it to A8 settings....couldn't......only S8 canada and US, 01 or 01 and later.....

So based on that, if you did not get a S8 TCU, I do not know if it could be coded to a S8....and if it didn't code to a S8, it would not have the redline of the S8, and maybe the gear ratios would be wrong.

You might want to reconsider if you can stop them from shipping it.....or I'm sure others with an 00 or 01 A8 or A8L would buy it off you if it does not work on your S8.
