What I got was not a TCU, I think it's an ECM

Part # 4DO 907 560 CF

The car would start, then die. Oddly, the PRND321 in the DIS turned all red like PaulW's

I didn't know that I didn't have a TCU, so I just matched this up to the similar looking box in the electronics box.

Yep, you got an ECU

The ECU, instrument cluster and keys all need to be VAG-COM'd together in order to get the immobilizer to work, that's why it died, it was an immobilizer thing.

Look at the date on the ECU

2004 Date of manufacture... That means it's from a D3. I'm really surprised that the car even started.... and that nothing else broke!

Its from an engine code AUX ....

The manufacture date is of the actual part. My guess is that before this car ended to the junk yard they replaced it.

I hate to resurrect a old thread. I just received my TCU today. Put it in and I don't have anything displayed. Any ideas? I was looking forward to squirting around denver while I am there this weekend.

Don't mean to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering what's the difference between recoding the 01 A8 transmission to 00032 (sport), or buying an 02+ tcu and and coding it to 01002 (02+ a8)?
