1997 A8 front wheel bearing replacement
Can anyone give me some info on what it takes to replace the front wheel bearing on a '97 A8?
Need to know if the bearing is press fit or can I tackle the job?
Thanks.

Re: 1997 A8 front wheel bearing replacement
It's press fit. I tried to tackle the job myself with tools I borrowed. The problem came when the hub came out with the front part of the bearing still in place. The bearing fell apart when I removed the hub. This created a problem since there's no way to extricate or pull the two parts apart. I ended up putting all the bearings (*****) in and repacking as best I could and slowly driving it to a tech so that he could impact hammer the bearing away from the hub.

Definitely press fit. There is a special VAG tool out there that you can possibly rent....
to allow you to perform this replacement without removing anything but the wheel and brake. I replaced mine when I did the control arm replacement and I had the entire assembly out of the car. Had it pressed out/in at a mechanical shop.
