1999 A8 quatrro versus 2001 A8L quattro
I need your guys opinion on something I currently have a 99 A8Q with 80k runs great no problems but I've been looking at an 01 A8LQ with 41k and is a Certified preowned, should I buy the 01 or just wait 2 years and purchase a 2004 A8L what would you guys do? BTW we have no kids just me and my girlfriend, so the SWB versus LWB is not that big of deal to me. (I really like the Audi Assured warranty thats why I decided to look at it) Thanks in advance!

Because . . . . ?
Changes were largely cosmetic. Smooth front bumper, different seats, dash facelifted. Very little change "under the hood". The 5V head didn't change engine performance much at all.
I'm with the doc on this one.

Re: Because the '99 has over 80k miles and will soon need $$$ work AND
It would likely be financially better to trade up now and again in 2 years for the used '04 D3. In 2 years the '99 with high (over 100k) miles will be worth zilch in trade.
Also, the '01 is better than the '99 due to the 100k mile Audi assured warranty, tip on steering wheel, navigation, 5v engine, better brakes, sunshades, improved seats, improved center console, wider center armrests, padded door armrests, improved radio and C/D, larger headlights, parktronic option to name a few obvious improvements. Also the L is longer, with a larger trunk. (The added length helps the resale.) The pie plate wheels are beautiful and the "facelift" looks fresher. All IMHO, of course! :-)
Why would you encourage anyone to hang onto an old car if they want a newer one? I can't think of any reason the '99 is superior to the '01! But since you and doc own '99's maybe I'm missing something? Then again, my '94 Caddy has 210k miles and I can't seem to kill it. Haha!

I like mine, I now have a new trans most if not all the major work done and it is getting close to
being paid off. So then my car payment can go to a new toy or to moding my car. That is why I like my 99. Mostly it would come down to car pyment verse no car payment. But, then that would also depend on what my accoutant told me about needing deductions. So, I guess it is still a toss up.
