I recently purchased a 2001 A8L and it drives fine for about 20 min from a cold start, then the transmission seems to stick in overdrive and ALL the gear indicators on the cluster are in red. I recently had a mechanic scope the car and found 2 transmission faults;18265 load signal from ecu, and 17114 incorrect gear ratio. My mechanic feels that I need to replace the transmission, is that the only possible answer??? Help....

Try to change the oil and filter first as it might help if it´s done THE RIGHT WAY...!
