Hi guys- first non audi guy here looking at another purchase option. 2003 A8 is this a D2 or D3? I have seen two different classifications depending on which forums I visit.

Secondly in considering a 2003 one with 85K one with 98K...are there any aftermarket warranty options that people buy to cover a potential trans failure? if so what companies do Audi owners use? Thanks

If the trans hasn't been replaced the "warranty company" will definitely work in the price of a new tranny into the overall price of your warranty, and then some. Sure it will cover things here and there, but the a8 pre MMI is a pretty solid car besides the tranny. I'd just invest the money in future small repairs, and a new tranny

What does the "pre MMI" mean. And when trans goes what do people usually do for replacement? Rebuilt at shop or order rebuilt from source (ZF?)

Pre mmi is a8's before 2004. Or cars without the multimedia interface. The fancy **** and controls at your fingertips. Without this it makes the car a bit less prone to electrical errors dealing with this system. And I ahve no clue on what they do, probably rebuild, not sure.
