2004 Audi A8 Reliability problems
#11
This is just like the new 7 Series
That car also had tons of problems in it's first year (2002). 2003 7 Series are much better in this regard. The same should hold true for the 2005 A8.

Helper, the only thing that has come up is the headlight range sensor warning...
otherwise the car has been a dream. One quirky thing though is when you pull back the windsheild washer lever to dispense fluid the wipers go on like they are supposed to and go back and forth 3 times (this is fine). When they settle they only settle for about 3-4 seconds and then go for one more swipe. It's almost as thought the car knows that there is some of that fluid left trickling down (you know how there always is) and it says I need one more pass. I don't know if this is intentional or what but I kinda like it.
Oh, and my timre pressure monitor was not working earlier but I think that was because I needed to be at a complete standstill (was moving 2-3 mph at the time).
I have 1,500 miles btw.

Re: 2004 Audi A8 Reliability problems
Thanks. I'm working on a better pic but I'm the last person in the western hemisphere to buy a digital camera and I just happened to be in New Haven on a rainy day when last I had access to one. The car is very nice.

Pots, the tire monitor only works when you are standing still? Thats odd, I think. In the Corvette, you can get a readout anytime except when cold starting. Then the corners read 00 until the tires warm up.

It sure sounds like it is all software related
I wonder how they fix that, if they write over code such as an update, or have to install a new hard drive (do these things have a hard drive?) that is previously loaded.
Or is it all flash stuff that is written over?
It's scary to think that the Audi dealers will be responsbile to fix these problems or to install updates. Unless they have some computer savy tech that loves his job, it will be a long road!
However, it sounds that if you do get some kind of software patch or reinstall, all of your problems could be fixed in one swipe of the hand, funny how so many systems can be effected by only one system.
