If you're going for the cartoon stagecoach look (apparently), it can be done much cheaper and more effectively.

It looks like a spray tanned prop off "Jersey Shore"...but not in a good way.

I think the D2 looks fine with 18" wheels, but I run 20's on mine in the summer for the better handling, and better deal on the rubber.
For my D3 however, the 20" wheels were a minimum deal for how they filled the wheel arches, and with 20x10's on front and back, they improved handling in ways you would not imagine a A8L to respond.
Also, with stock wheels/tire sizes, you get a speedo that is not correct, but slightly optimistic. However, if you run 255/40 18's, it will be much closer to correct, and in 20's, 275/30 20's or 255/40 20's puts it right on the money for my car/wheels/tires. (Each company has slightly different tire rolling diameters, even with the same sidewall numbers/aspect ratio.)
Not to put too fine a point on it, but the D2 S8 setup with these 20x10 rims, and 275/30 20 Pilot Sport A/S tires at about 50% wear, is an amazing handling machine.
Stock, you can really push the car around in the corners if you are aggressive, the front will just slide.
However, with this setup, it raises the limits to an entire level that most street driving will not accomplish day to day.
It was an eye opening front push around a local round a bout that I push the limits on every chance I get. With the summer tires, either the Pilot Sports, or the much softer riding, and quieter Conti's, they don't push at all short of more than 70mph. (In a posted 45mph zone.)
But on the winter tires? (255/40 18 Blizzaks studless snow/ice tires) They pushed, and slid a few feet before I had scrubbed off enough speed to bring them back on line, and before I was in any danger of meeting a curb.
And that was at 45mph. Heck, at 45, they don't even chirp the summer tires.
The plus side is with snow or ice, the snow/ice tires keep my S8 happy, and shiny side up at all times.

See how much wider the track is on the D2 with D3 specific wheels on there?
Front and back, it's wider, and yes, it clears the fenders/quarters no problem.
These 20x8.5 rims with 255 wide tires are not nearly as wide, or set out as much as the 20x10's I bought for the D3 A8L, and as such, don't widen the track as much, but still push the limits of the car in the summer to a level I don't exceed 99.9% of the time. (But the wider rims/tires do move that level even higher, it's the perfect track setup if you are into that sort of thing with the D2, get D3 20x10 rims, and run 275 wide tires front and back.)
