7mm tool in blau kit? I see (and used the 5mm drill bit) for setting the tension

Bingo ! (or close to bingo)
I was trying to get the 7mm between the PISTON just like the 5mm. Let me see if that works!
I'm tired, that's an easy one to overlook.
thanks!

The belts don't seem very tight on the 40valve motors when they are tensioned

It works! Thanks to Tom and Paul - just gave it a quick start w/o anything hooked up.
figured if I blew my engine, why waste time putting everything back together
Gave me that quick dry start/no oil sound after sitting for 3 days, just what I needed to hear !
I'll recheck everything tomorrow and start putting it back together. Tom, good call on the tensioner. Amazing what a difference ONE word will make !

Great. Now have you got any suggestions about the crank locking pin and its cover?
Or are they just a pain to install and remove?
Yes, that no-oil lifter noise isn't nice to hear after having things apart. But the shop manual's step of turning the crankshaft two complete revolutions seems more about error detection than anything else, since the tension they have you measure afterward with the camshafts unlocked could vary if the one of the camshafts springs away from center.

The belt will be tight when the cam sprockets are loose. The effect you refer to can happen ...
when the valve springs turn the alternator-side cam sprocket so that more belt ends up between it and the other cam sprocket. The "extra" length of belt comes from compressing the hydraulically damped tensioner on the other side of the turning cam sprocket.
I have seen a previously centered -- supposedly balanced -- camshaft rotate itself after pulling loose its sprocket. So I have no trouble believing that after the engine stops, camshafts are sometimes spring loaded to rotate.

crank locking pin and its cover?
Tom,
I saw your post before and the crank locking pin easy for but I traded that in for my issue last night (not being able to read !)
I have a lift which helps. I had trouble finding it at first and it is hard to reach, wish the tool was about 2" longer. I used a 3/8" drive with a long extension and elbow as I'm sure you did. Even on the lift, I had to wedge my head up in there to see it and my hand barely reached.
I took a pic, maybe between the few of us who have done this now, we can put together a 40v update page for audipages.
