Re: 80% depreciation in 6 yrs? Wow.
The dealer service and parts support sucks. I bought a 1998 A8 with 75,000 for $15,000 back in Nov 2003. Great car and fun to drive. I have had it in and out of a shop now for 3 months. Minor stuff. Seat occupancy sensor for the front passenge seat, seat motor and seat switch. Then I had to get an upper control arm for the left side. The major problem is getting parts. Audi's parts departmenrs stink. They are slow and not supportive of independant mechanics, at least in my area.
A friend of mine has an 1973 2002 TTI BMW and he can get parts faster than I can for my 1998 Audi. People buy a $70,000 car and then get horrible service and support under warrranty and then once they are out of warrranty they dump the car and tell the horror stories.
High cost + bad customer service + high maintance costs @ the dealer = low resale value.
Love the car but would not buy another Audi.

I was shopping for a 740 when I bought my A8. Actually the 740's were even cheaper (more depreciated) based on my shopping. I thing it is actually pretty normal. All the 70k range cars that are in the 97 - 99 year range were 12 - 25 k. I say smart shopping on my part! :-)
