'97 A8 Ignition Switch would not turn off engine
Referring to an earlier post, the dealer called and said ignition Switch is broken and needs replacement. Also, car was running on 5 cylinders due to faulty power supply which also needs to be replaced. $750. Is this a logical explanation and is the charge reasonable?
I think the tech turned the switch to the start position with the battery disconnected to kill the engine.

Re: '97 A8 Ignition Switch would not turn off engine
Having the need to replace the ignition switches in the 1996 A6, and the 1999 VW Jetta, It appears that the VAG (Volkswagon Audi) have selected a switch design that "makes" on failure. That is, if and when the plastic housing breaks, distorts, or just wears out, the electrical contacts close, activating the circuits. This was a big suprise when I was replacing the Jetta switch as the back of the swithch came off while I tried to pull the plug, Everything just lit up and the engine starter began whirring!
As for price? Hmmmm it's a difficult task to change out most electrical bits.
