Hi all, nyrobbie 77 if you are still on line of this forum from when you last posted in 2012 about your experiance with the heater pump, but if you are or anyone else can, I have the same problem with frozen valve so if anyone could advise me as to where I could procure such a valve assembly for a 1998 S8 heater pump valve assembly only or if not, then the whole pump/valve part no 4D0 959 617A. I live in New Zealand and it seems quite hard to get one. Thanks in Anticipation,,Stod

Stod,

I got my pump from someone here that was parting out their A8. I think I paid approx. $100 with shipping. A quick search on Ebay for "A8 heater valve" pulls up several results here in the states and a few in the UK. Perhaps one of those sellers would be willing to ship to New Zealand. If you get a US seller, the USPS (United States Postal Service) is fairly inexpensive to ship with and easy for the seller. I've shipped things all over the world very cheaply via the USPS method.

Hope that helps and let us know how you make out. If you have any questions on how to replace it let me know.

I know this thread is old... But would a failure of this pump also cause heat to blow out of my driver side while the a/c is on... But a/c works fine on passenger side?
Perhaps it's stuck running hot water through the system?

No that's common, low AC gas. The passenger's side gets cooled first and if the AC charge is low it's not able to cool the driver's side.

I like to do things the right way but its a 99 audi with 170kmi - extra car, and I wasn't about to take apart the dash or pay someone else to. Just wanted to share in case someone else is in the same position.

Hi
Interesting solution to bypass the valve and still having heater working, but I have a question regarding the loss: 1) what do I lose if I do the bypass? 2) could you in details describe the picture where you already did the bypass?
My headache is only a noisy motor that is attached to the valve (not a blower motor). I do not know if it can be fixed. If you have any suggestion about it, I would appreciate your post. Maybe bearing in it most likely, or anything else? Is it repairable?
Thanks a lot

The only thing you'd lose bypassing it is the after-run function. The pump allows for coolant to flow through the heater cores after the vehicle is shut down - approx 5 mins IIRC. If the pump is just noisy, simply unplug the electrical connector at the pump. there's no bearings inside the pump, it's not a rotational pump - more of a plunger in a cylinder. I used to have pics of the inside of the pump, but lost the host. I don't think any parts are available to rebuild them.
