Default You were right Tom

Water somehow got over the control module an corroded one black plug and the red plug.
I just finished cleaning them with contact spray. Hopefully that would solve the problem.

Thanks a million,
Oscar

Default Well, we'll hope so

If your corroded connections were under the gasketed cover for the engine and transmission control modules etc., make sure the rubber gasket is in good condition and installed correctly, and that the cover isn't missing any screws. There should be an explanation for how the water got in.

And if it again doesn't start but doesn't set codes, the RPM sensor problem that Polidori reported is worth looking at.

I think I need to change the seal. I tested it with water and a little water got in. Other than that the car is working like a charm.

Thanks to all of you for all your help.

Default Re: '99 A8 Water getting into the engine control module

Water continues to get into the engine control module. I unclogged the drains, the seal looks good and all the screws are working. Last night I sealed it with silicone. I cleaned all the connections with electrical contact spray and got it to start fine, but it continues to give me the same codes as before. What could possibly be causing the water to get in? and as an after thought did I do the right thing by sealing it with silicone.

Thanks in advance,
Oscar

Did you ever resolve this? I have a similar problem with our '99. Sometimes it starts up and runs great, sometimes it starts and runs on 7. P1201 and #1 misfire are the codes. I did find some corrosion and wetness in the ECU plugs.

You do realize that you are responding to a post from 2005? That was 6 years ago...
