Default A8 D2 4.2 PFL Engine fuel consumption off

Recently the fuel consumption values in instrument is very vrong.

When the car is on idle, and idling down a downhill it shows a very high value. It seems that its more correct when the RPM is increased.

Where to start.

Just to make clear, what is high value ?

I have a similar "problem" with my D2 4.2 tiptronic. As if have speed about 90 km/h and I lift my foot from the gas pedal the consumption (according to the dashboard view) is still about 4l/100km (have to convert that to mpg..) but if the speed is 110 km/h, lifting the gas pedal will drop the consumption 0. And it stays there till the speed has dropped to aprox 80km/h and then it starts to consume about 3-4L /100km even with foot off the gas pedal. I don't actually know if that is supposed to do that or is there some leak in the intake manifold of some other problem...

How is it working with everybody else ? Does the consuption drop to 0 when the throttle is closed and the motor is braking ?

Hey.

No Miles for me, kilometer here.

When driving in slow traffic and barely touching the gas pedal it will go up to 3-4l/100km. Even when foot off gas pedal it is very slow in getting the values down to 0,2-0,7L/100.

This was correct earlier this year.

Hey, you didn't by the way had the battery disconnected before this happened? I did.

Someone told me that it could be a "learning" thing???

Zero out the odometer and your average readout when you fill the tank, then calculate the actual fuel mileage (kilos, whatever) when you refill the tank (the ONLY accurate)...check that against the average readout.

You didn't get much response because no one really cares about or trusts the mpg readout...it's usually just a ballpark guess, at best.

If you really want to see some crazy numbers, put the engine in neutral and coast down a hill at 65 MPH. I think I got 160 MPG...

Here is at 55MPH:

I understand that, but my car has been almost dead on for a long time. Then suddenly something happened.

Just trying to understand what causes it.

Using Vag-com one can adjust this; mine was 10% off, so I adjusted it (but I think I set it the wrong way, meaning my MPG is now 10% better than before).

Does it seem to be using more fuel than it was before? I would check for vacuum leaks, also possibly log the MAF sensor.
