Brent I agree with you ,and the Ford man was obviously thinking of fords when refering to 75K being BIG miles. My A8 has covered 139K, to date has had apart from servicing at 10K intervals, One new rad ( 95K ) gearbox overhauled new torque coverter ( 106K ), front wishbones top and bottom over the last 25K.......JOHN A8 4.2

Pretty much have to agree. Most of my issues have been electrical over our four Audis. A number of small to medium items but the basic car is very well built and I've never been stranded. Will have to say that they respond well to TLC and they punish neglect. If you neglect your cars care buy a Toyota/Lexus.........

Our collective family experience has been Mercedes(2), BMW(3), Audi (4) is that at least in recent years releiability is about the same on all three. Lexus(3) is by far the most reliable and has the least 'soul', Porsche(3) have been the most finicky but also had the most 'soul'.

At least here in San Diego, dealership service totally depends on which one of the three you go to. Varies from great, to pretty good but busy/small, to you're lucky to get an appointment with us sucker. Note: the great dealership has stolen a number of the experienced Audi mechanics from the other two. Only one decent audi familiar independent here locally. Pretty much the same spread in service at the local BMW/MB dealers. Have to say based on other family member that Lexus has the best customer service.
Have talked several time to Audi USA reps and they know it is an issue...... perhaps mostly caused by Audi's re-emergence and growth in recent years overwhelming the service networks.

Personally I'm willing to put up with a few more visits to the great shop here in town for the exclusivity (live on a street full of Lexi), driving feel/performance (w/ upgraded brakes and suspension), interior quality and ability to take it up skiing without chains. If I had to deal with the one crappy local dealer and didn't have any Audi Assured warranty, I would probably be driving something else.......
With depreciation, buying 1.5-4 year old Audi's produce a great bang for the buck in luxury performance market.

Default The V8 SHO or the V6 ? They were neat cars.

I especially liked the V6. Chassis a tad mushy though.

I have a '94 Caddy Fleetwood 18 feet of black with 192,000 miles. Seat leather is a little creased. Replaced starter motor 4 times, fuel accumulator, distributer, water pump, wheel bearings, front brakes once a year, oil every 3k. That's about it. American car, not sporting or much fun to drive the beast 70 miles a day. The Audi is for fun but it will be great if it lasts 200,000 miles.
