way OT: airport security is a farce
What they are doing at the screening points is
1. preventing random, casual acts of air violence/terror
2. presenting the illusion that air travel can be made safe so that the masses will continue to fly.
They cannot prevent (3) a concerted attempt by a number of well-trained attackers who are planning to die.
It's a shame that the farce persists, because the existing security mechanisms already did a pretty good job against #1 without being annoying and abusive.
The only things that prevent (3) are intelligence, cockpit security, and F-16s on scramble.
