Default Another Transmission Issue

So I have the infamous Kazoo sound which I am told is the front pump. I called a local independat Audi shop who refered me to a guy at another local transmission shop who does a lot of these. He said that what it probably is is the gear on the front pump and that is all that ususally need to be replaced. Has anybody ever heard of this? Sounds too good to be true...other than the whole idea of having to remove the tranny to do this ring replacement.

Have you ever changed the filter and the fluid?

Thanks for the reply. I did it twice actually. Noise still there. I fear I drove it too long before doing the change.

Default I would also check if there is any dent on the tranny pan.

If there is a dent the pan could be too close to the filter.

Hmmm...interesting thought. I would think I would have noticed, or remembered an event that could have dented the pan but certainly worth a look. Thanks for the idea. Tozo, do you think there is anything to the ring gear on the front pump being wore? Have you ever heard of that?

Default I never had to replace a pump, but I've rebuilt only a few A8 tranny.

My original tranny had a noisy pump, but after a fluid and filter change it was fine until something else gave up. One more thing. A missing o-ring from the top of the filter could cause the same noise.

Thanks. I know that an o-ring was replaced when the filter was. I wonder if that was the one. Or is there another o-ring that causes problems. Now the tranny goes in to limp mode so I need to do alittle research and see what the story is with that. Thanks again for your expertise.
