Default anyone removed there belt driven fan for an electric one?

I was replacing the fan clutch last night and i noticed that there is plenty of room for an after-market electric fan....

Anyone done it?

In theory it should reduce parasitic loss and increase wheels horse power right? i always see them making the swap on the sunday "muscle car shows". I know an A8 is no Mustang, but i would think all the V8 concepts would carry over

Just wanted to here everyone thoughts

Default Yup. I love my EFK. Installed it after my stock fan disintegrated :P

I'd say it's good for at least 5hp. I bought mine from VAST Performance. Try contacting them to see if they have one that will fit. BTW, the complete kit for my car was $160.

Default yes, but figuring out the new accessory belt routing is a nightmare.

It's a good thing the people who make the belts index them by length and rib count :P

Default A8's must have a different fan setup compared to my A6.

All I had to do on my car was remove the fan and clutch from the pulley (no belt change required.) If your cars do have a one-piece assembly, then that sucks

Default i dont know what that guy was talking about either.....

they are pretty much the same from what i have seen. I just removed my fan and clutch a few nights ago and i agree with what you are saying, there is no reason that you cant just leave the pulley in place and let it act as an idler

vwgti16vt, can you tell me which electric fan kit from Vast you bought for your Audi A8? I have a D2 S8 and looking to do this as well, but VAST asked if I wanted the 14" or 16" lower profile fan to be installed in the core support. Can you tell me what the dimesion you used? Also, can you shoot me a link to the photo (link on post is now dead). Thanks for any help in adavance.
