Audi D2 A8L questions
Hey guys i have a few A8L D2 that I am looking at....
Is there anything that I need to ask the dealers about before purchasing?
Any specific questions?
I know the transmission's on em aren't so great. Tend to go out.
Here are the links to the few that I have my eyes set on......

One would only buy a D2 with a bad trans if the price was SO low, that it's book value would cover a trans rebuild or swap for rebuilt trans.

Knowing they have trans problems, I'd go to Kelly Blue Book site and punch in the numbers for a private party sale value...THEN add $4-5K to the price. Trans problems in a D2 almost never lead to anything less than a rebuild.

None of them have trans problems right now they are all up to date on maintenance they look great.
My only concern other than the transmission what else should I look
for?

Is this a good list of thing to look for?
1. Timing belt history – original or has it been changed, if so, what mileage?
2. Any Maintenance history? (Any other paperwork)
If easy to see also (3-6):
3. Valve covers and head inspected for leaking.
4. Power steering pump and steering rack inspected for leakage.
5.Color of coolant in overflow tank. Must be red.
6. Inspect (8) CV joint boots on four axles. Pay close attention to outer front boots.
7. Do headrests go up/down? Check in down position first.
8. Does heated steering wheel work?
9. Does the steering wheel fully extend/retract?
10. Are xenon headlights installed?
If possible (11-12)
11. Pull engine fault codes.
12. Pull transmission fault codes.
Also
13. Tire wear pattern.
14. Approximate remaining tire life
15. Transmission shifting including downshifts going to a slow stop.
16. Mechanical “clunks” in drive train when stopped with foot on brake? (D to R to D)
17. Turn steering lock to lock, any noises?
18. Ensure no clunking going around corners from front CV joints.

Also what are the some of the things I should change as soon as I get the car, and where do you guys do all your shopping for mods and maintenance?

First thing I would so would be a full set of fluid changes so you have a base on where to start unless you have proof that some items have been serviced. I would do an oil change, brake fluid flush, coolant flush, and if the car has under 100k miles do a transmission pan drop, filter change, and fill up with fluid. Do not do a transmission flush!! I have never been found of these services as all the dirt and metal shavings sit at the bottom of the pan most times and this will not be cleaned out with a flush as the pan is never removed.

I will talk to him about the brake fluid and coolant.
Thank you for the pointers!

Coolant? ...unless it looks other than clear pink, don't waste your money...it's still OK.
