Can TB be changed without renting tools on 01 A8?

I would never do a timing belt change without the tools
If you didn't know, the tools for the 40v motor are different than the 32 valve motor.
You need to properly index everything when it's off.

Re: Can TB be changed without renting tools on 01 A8?
I think you could do it, (having done it myself with the benefit of A8CT's tool rental) but I don't recommend it. Rent the tools. Do it the correct and (easy way). The technical nuance is that there is quite a length of TB looped around the water pump, between the cams, and the holding bar allows reindexing the sprockets on the cams to adjust for length. The sprockets are NOT keyed to the cams and can be moved around after they are popped loose with the puller. If you don't use the tools the slack would be taken out by changing the relative time cam timing between banks. I would get an Audi water pump from Mr. Heter at Riverside Audi, he is pretty good on the belt(s) too. Apparently there are thermosats that fail in the open mode. Try and get one, tell us the part number and source, the thermo is the weak link on the 40V eng.
A8CT has some nice how to do it clips, too.

a question for gondar if you are not useing the
fixtures on the back side to locate the cams then
you can use the (0) marks on the cam shaft chain sprockets looks a little like this
0 > < 0 .
if you do this then crank the engine by hand 5 or 10 times around and when on TDC the chain sprockets still line up would it not be timed correctly? let me know. I replaced all the seals
the crank seal the, aux shaft seal was leaking
the cam seals was it 6 blue gaskets and 3 seals i think for the cams.
