Yeah, stupid. Lowers my perception of the writers by a few notches.
So could we say," If the S8 were a man, he would have unbuttoned his shirt to his navel as an invitation to explore further?"

Considering the context, a more likely sentence would've read:
"If the S8 were a man, he would have crushed an empty beer can against his forehead, daring us to find him a bottle."
