If the problem was indeed as bad as you say it was, you should seek out a 4-wheel dyno shop in your area, and have the car analyzed under load.
There is something wrong with your S8.
A 6-ish second car can not be "whipped" by "almost anyone." That's just physics.
When your car is on a dyno, with the hood open you can run it at speed while monitoring important engine values and watching mechanical items supposedly do their jobs.

The Good, Bad, and the Ugly
After 70k miles, my first impressions haven't changed much, except that the brakes are much worse than I thought.

j/k -- looks like a very nice car, but $32k is going to hard to get outside of a dealer.
