Cruise Control Stalk Assembly

Cruise Control Stalk Assembly
I'm having a problem with my cruise control. It sets a speed perfectly everytime, but the resume function only works about once in every ten tries. I suspect its a dirty contact. Is there any way to remove that stalk, open it up and clean the contacts? Anyone done this before? Suggestions, cautions?
thanks

Re: Cruise Control Stalk Assembly
In the past I have asked other forum members for non-working cruise control/signal stalk switches in order to "operate" on one to learn how to take one apart. I believe if I could get one apart in a manner that it could be put back together after treating with contact cleaner and Stabalant 22, I would solve my intermitant/non-working cruise control. I've not had anyone agree to ship one to me at my expense yet. If you have any luck in locating one let me know what you find.

Same place, same day
Yes, Skiracer, PaulW and I had lunch at Arrowhead golf course, outside of Denver, and used the golf course as a back drop for some great pictures of some great A8's.

I have had that same problem...
since I bought the car. Dealer could never replicate the issue and it never got fixed. I have learned to active the resume botton on the top end of the **** and pulling it down while sliding, that usually works. I also spray the assembly with contact cleaner every couple of month and work the switches for a while. I am too cheap to put a new one in. Hope that helps.

I have not heard before of contact cleaner that melts plastic. Get some at Radio Shack and read...
...the label and see if it mentions anything like that.
Thanks HZach for the tip.

Where do I begin to just pop it open?
That's what I can't figure out. Looked at that stalk and I can't find a seam or anything to ever pry on. Does the switch cover itself actually pop out? Usually pretty good at these things, but can't get started on this one.
