Dad's car (S8) having some issues, CEL and rough idle on startup....
Last week he told me that for a little while (previous week) when he started the car in the morning (cold) the idle would be a little rough and the CEL would come on. After a few minutes of running in the garage the car would smooth out and CEL went off.
Late last week the CEL came on and stayed on, dealer was notified. The car is newly out of warranty, so we are sort of on our own here, any ideas on what this could be?
Today we were going to take it to the dealer, but the CEL did not come on so we are going to wait for it to come back before doing anything. I wish we had a VAG com but unfortunately we don't... yet. TIA.

Hard to tell, but this is a possibility

Had the same codes twice last yr: 1st time as Paul said; 2nd time the MAF.
However, there was no "rough" idle in neither of these times. Might be something else--spark, ignition coil?

I've bought one of these at Pep Boys. Very good scanner and you can use it on any car.

I would vote for this too.
On an A6 4.2, same problem. When I finally bought about a dozen feet of new vacuum line and replaced every running inch of the junk German braided stuff Audi used originally, no more problems. I found a leak anywhere in the vacuum circuit could lead to these same kinds of symtoms and codes with the secondary air injection system.
Easy to do. About 30 minutes once I had the hose. If you haven't replaced it, it's just a matter of time...
