Field experiences with Xenon bulbs ?
Hi,
Has anyone tried different Xenon bulbs (D2S) and found differences in light-output/strenght ?
I'm not talking about HID conversion kits at all because those are different bulbs and not comparable. I really mean the facelift factory xenon-headlights.
Any tips on manufacturers/models/types to recommend/avoid ?
I have 6000K after-market bulbs now (not OEM as they are 4300K) and are wondering "is this all?".
I already replaced the headlight glass (polycarbonate actually) completely so they don't weaken the beams anymore because of stone/grime impact.

I would go with a different output. I think many will agree that 5k is the most they would
go for output. I had 6k before and I believe I lost more output than gained. It was also still too blue for me.

Maximum Lumen output is at 4100-4300K. You can go as high as 6000K without losing.....
very much brightness, but after that the Lumen output drops off noticeably (higher color temperature does NOT translate into more/brighter light). I would personally go with a HID bulb that runs at ~5000-5500K- almost 100% of maximum lumens with a color closer to that of daylight (~6500K). Unfortunately, HID technology has not reached the point where max lumen output is at sunlight temperature.

4300-5K is best for lumens. To increase brightness, go with 55W ballast. Much brighter.
Or you can go with 6K bulbs and 55W ballasts to offest some of the lumens lost to higher temp bulbs.

Are there no differences in output between D2S bulbs? Like they exist with various halogens brands?
Philips, Bosch and Osram for example have various halogen bulbs with different output-levels.

Think many people are confused about this issue. Xenon filled bulbs do not give you Xenon HID lights
