Default headlight lense refurbishing

I wetsanded my facelift plastic headlight covers and tried to polish them back to clear with an edge wheel pad on a drill and red rouge compound stick. I was unable to get the lens back to clear...what step did I omit?

I dunno if the drill is fast enough. I think you can take it to a glass place to have it buffed.

Default what grit did you use ? When I did mine, I started with 240 and went all the way up...

to 2000 with about 5 in between. At that point, I used heavy, med, fine, swirl remover. A lot of steps but it works. Don't worry, the plastic is pretty thick. Worst case is you start over. Go to school on one side and then you'll have a system for the other.

I ended with 1500 grit but I did not use swirl remover but I will do that. I have seen swirlremover but never in various 'weights', what brand did you use? And was a drill and rouge sufficient to end with and achieve a perfectly clear lens?
