I thought the mirrors and nozzles were turned on with the defrost only...
Unless they changed that for the A8. Almost positive that the '99 A6's heating elements for mirrors and washer nozzles are only turned on when the rear window defrost is switched on. Ditto for the '90 CQ, '98 Cabrio and '87 5kq.
The CQ even has heated door lock cylinders, turns on when you lift up on the outside handle for something like 5sec...

It should be on the defrost circuit. The +12VDC supplied is "key on", but there control relays and such.
Someone with the wiring diagrams can confirm that they are either controlled with the defrost circuit or by a thermo-switch.

They need to be cleaned when they come out of the box, but if you hide the wires well you cant even tell they are wired up. They get real hot and melt snow on contact. I would only recommend these to be used in the winter, your standard teflon blade will porbably bemore efficient in the warmer weather.

Any new ideas of where to wire them?

I am ordering a set. Should be great for the weather that is on the way.
Thinking I could have a switch and turn them on and off but some how adding the on off to the temp sensor or something like that would be cool.
Any ideas?
