Default How do I find a trans rebuilder?

I am in Ohio and thinking hard about a tranny rebuild.... How can I find a good rebuilder or does someone have a rebuilt one with some miles that they can refer a shop? Maybe I can pull and ship..... hmmmm.

Default Oh yeah... 99 a8 hunting. No thumping but it used to.......

Never did both. Thumped at 60k. Change fluid and it was good. Replace some tranny seal at 85k and hunting starts. 95k now and getting tired of hunt on on ramps.

Default Go with a ZF authorized facility.

I just had mine rebuilt (1999 A8) by MZF, Inc in the San Francisco area. I found them by looking up the ZF site.
http://www.zf.com/na/defaultz.asp

They did a great job with my transmission. The work cost about $4500, but they offer a two year unlimited milage warranty.<ul><li><a href="http://www.zf.com/na/defaultz.asp">http://www.zf.com/na/defaultz.asp</a</li></ul>

I used Eriksson Industries (ZF authorized) to rebuild my wife's '99 A8 tranny (DTE) in July '06. They'll provide competive quotes for shipping in both directions to/from Old Saybrook, CT. Tranny feels like brand new and no problems so far (knocking on aluminum) after 7K miles.<ul><li><a href="http://www.erikssonindustries.com/">Eriksson Industries</a></li></ul>

I'm in the Santa Cruz area... glad to hear you had good results with MZF. Was the $4500 price with the tranny "in" or "out" of the car?

Default bullit transmissions in Bay city Mich or autosports unlimited in holland mich

both have worked on my cars and both are recomended by zf. The are both very resonable on their costs and easy to deal with. call me and I can give you phone numbers and contact info

I drove the car from Seattle to MZF. They removed and reinstalled there. I was really impressed with this shop. Gunther came out and talked with me personally about the rebuild just before we left for Seattle. Head over to their shop...I bet they have $2 million worth of transmissions just sitting on racks there. Very impressive.
