#12
I have spent since I owned it 1 year
2500 for a rebuilt tranny
460 for control arms
1200 on wheels
1000 on 2 sets of tires winter and summer
60 2 oil changes
418 shocks
20 for air intake manifold gasket
60 for cabin filters
42 for k/n air filter
28 for serp belt
300 for a vag
60 for bentlys
350 rotorsx4corners
100 ceramic padsx4 corner
178 for front axle cv joint
grand total $5416 but learning about the car priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
for a $12,000 car with 88k when I bought it a year ago.. just over 1/3 almost 1/2 total cost of the car not a good ration but I expected these items (well most of them) when I bought it. I can't help myself it is like a drug I love the car and I miss it since I am awaiting parts.............again

Re: How many miles do A8 owners put on their cars a year???
Bought my S8 this past february, with 52k on it and it now has 66k. Love it, enjoyed every mile, honestly, this car is tighter and put together better than the brand new ferraris and maseratis I work on.

Most of those expenses were unneccessary
almost half was wheels and tires - not the fault of the car. Wheels was cosmetic, and tires are just a wear item that would need to be replaced regularly on any vehicle.
The shocks were an upgrade, right? Though they would have had to be replaced eventually anyway.
If you strike out the things that you didn't really need to do that extravagently, or the upgrades, then the picture isn't so bad.

true true, most items are normal wear, I expected them
the only true upgrade was the wheels. Shocks were needed and everything else was needed.. I forgot to mention I also upgraded brake lines to SS (that was another upgrade not needed). another $150.. and the fluid, and filter change for the tranny 2x that was another $300 (testing to see if it smoothed things out). A MAF about $50 (again testing to solve tranny issue) but like I said before I learn'd lots and I am still having fun I love the car.. I would get another in the future. I expected these items to go bad I was just wish not al at once. but either way it would of added up sooner or later, now I should be good for years to come.

25k a year on my 99.
current mileage is 148,000. Original trans (no thump, no hunt), new driveshafts all the way around, output flange seal replaced, breather hoses replaced, timing belt done at 101k, battery replaced at 143k. Other than that she requires only the normal fluid changes.

Had for less than a year, but at this rate, about 12-13k
Bought in January with 111k. Has about 119k now.
As for expenses, so far:
Fix the oil cooler line
Replace the right rear caliper
2 oil changes
Fuel tank sending unit seal (still not fixed)
Replace the HID bulbs (one blown, replaced both)
And of course, VAG-com and the Bentley
Sorry I don't have any of the receipts in front of me at the moment.
