Default Installed the Ferodo 2500 Pads 2 days ago.............

Took about 1.5hrs to do the job right. Cleaned and greased the pins and spring plate. Pulled the wear sensors from the old pads and ziptie'd it up for safekeeping.

Stock rotors...

Bedded them in according to the instructions in the box. Progressively built up heat and then did 7-8 hard stops from 40-50mph. Then let cool and drove home.

First morning out to work and they made a tiny squeak (1 second) on the first stop I made. Not a peep afterwards.

This morning to work...Tiny squeak at the same stop sign. Nothing after that.

Impressions:

Cold - less bite than stock, but not much. This is only for the first or second stop from dead cold.

Warm/Hot - I would say 15-20% better bite and stopping power than stock.

Long stops off the highway are weird because you can actually feel the pads grabbing more and more as they heat up. A nice secure feeling.

Overall I am very happy with the setup. It is exactly what I was looking for. Ill wait until winter when things get cold to see if they decide to start making noise.

Default supercool - congrats - smart on all the lube use - they'll grab harder than...

...15-20% stock after a few more miles. I kept finding myself stopping short - a weird feeling.

Enjoy!

What lube did you use on the pins and plates Tim? I'm about to do rotors and pads myself.

Multi Purpose Grease (Bearing Grease). The thick stuff that comes in a can.

Default Paul, mine have been in for many months / miles and they're silent (99.999%) and fine cold. Not...

...3000s tho, the 2500s are totally kosher. Just lube the crap out of them - may have to relube down the road @ some point, matters not / worth the increased grabbygrab...

Default Alright! I just had 'em tell me DS2500 NA/'01 S8!!! What gives?

Hi Dennis,
Thanks for the interest!
Ferodo does not make the front pads for this car, and DBA does not make the rotors. Below are 2 similar Hawk compounds, and the only available rotors.
Somebody give me some product#'s please! Going to change rotors too, and I want drilled and slotted so they can crack on me.

Default Re: Probably not the best choice

Brake caliper carrier pins should be lubricated with G000650, a brake specific lubricant you can get in a relatively small tube (similar to a large toothpaste tube) from most dealers.

Would wheel bearings get as hot as a caliper carrier? Would wheel bearing grease stand up to the temperatures a caliper carrier might reach in heavy braking?
